This listing is for a Renaissance Bell Farthingale. It is made out of unbleached cotton twill and has 4 rows of steel hoop boning throughout. It has a waistband (rather than drawstring) for comfort and it laces together on either side for maximum adjustability.
Bell Farthingales were worn from the Henrician Period until the Late Elizabethan Period when the wheel farthingale took over. The bell farthingale is different from a bridal hoop or Civil War/Romantic Era hoop because of its shape. It is literally bell shaped and fits under certain Renaissance styles like Henrician (early Tudor) gowns and loose-bodied gowns where larger hoop skirts will not. It also displays cartridge pleated skirts very nicely!
